Darkwolf Review

Movie begins and the viewer is greeted with half naked women. Let me say right now that nudity is so frequent in this film that you will either laugh it off or it will start to annoy you. But right away the action starts and we see the bad guy chased by three cops in the strip bar. When I saw the movie first time I thought that the biker guy being chased was just used as some sort of a temporary character that would soon fall prey for the werewolf, but amazements start and we find out later that this fellow is actually the main villian. No charisma, no screen presence, just a very dumb look and too much muslce. Brilliant. I really don't remember seing such an excuse for a bad guy, I really don't. Before any killing we are switched to 2 potential victims, a girl and a guy and it is here we find out that the guy is actually the boyfriend of the main female character Josie. Not really important but you will realize that he is very irritating and with no taste in hair style. The dialogue between him and his female friend is... guess what? Nudity!!! Or better yet about the moral dilemma of his girlfriend making a nude photoshoot or not. Yep, this movie is obviously very high on philosophical levels. After this excuse of character developement, we are again back with the biker guy seeing him captured and put into a police van. All hell breaks loose when suddenly he turns into... DARKWOLF !! He kills a cop that is actually a very dear friend and partner of the main character, escapes and now the movie starts to get nasty. These 2 cops, now only one, are actually a part of a secret police squad that deal with werewolves. We also find out about the plan of Darkwolf, the most fierce and deadly of all werewolves that is now searching for the "next matriarch pureblood" (trying to be mystical, I bet the screenwriter was on drugs) with a goal to mate with her (that will be Josie the female main character) in order to produce a new generation of pureblood werewolves. We are supposed to take this all seriously and maybe I could if it were not for the dialogue that this was explained in. Simply no words to describe such acting.

There is no more need for me to describe the story any further because the only thing that counts are the scenes which could be called highlights. If you observe this picture you will notice that something is wrong. That's right, this is Darkwolf, a big lump of something. Now that's what I called "scary". You could say he's retarted but that would not be nice towards the time and effort (how long does it take to put something on a stick and wave it around the set?) the costume designers put into this movie. I would put this as the main highlight but oh no, there are plenty to come. Let's take for example this line: "Why was the werewolf running so fast?" "Why?" "He was in a hairy!" I'm not making this up, it's a werewolf joke from the movie and this is, in my humble opinion, something really rare and genius. How to come up with such an idea? Get drunk? Use drugs? Fall down the stairs? I wish I could know... Life would be funnier. Offcourse how could this movie even exist if it wasn't for the 6 minute MTV style, mildly lesbian slow motion photoshoot. This scene really has absolutely no meaning and that's what makes it so special. The third most important thing are the computer effects. Why watch Matrix when you have Darkwolf? Simply observe this cgi example and you will see all the splendour of modern technology. Simply astonishing to say the least. And here Darkwolf looks actually very cute. I'd like him as a pet, maybe call him Darky or Manure... Yes, I know, now I'm almost as funny as the screenwriter. Hillarious.

The only thing missing is slightly more gore here and there but there is decent amount of blood, and more overall feeling that you can feel lacked when the crew was filming it. There is is simply not too much soul in this movie which explains why I graded it three and a half. If only for more personal approach and intimacy (no matter what the outcome, although I believe it would be even funnier) this flick would surely get a higher score. Nevertheless this is a must for all werewolf and horror fans that want a decent laugh. Crappy dialogue and acting, some scenes which surpass insanity, computer effects that could rival the first pc games and so many other splendid details that I didn't have heart to reveal them all. See for yourself and enjoy.
